Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just put on coumadin and I would like to know about certain foods that I can eat that are not mentioned on any lists. Just to mention I am 76 ,and was in very good shape until 7 days ago. The foods are salmon flounder, tilapia, american cheese , swiss cheese, nuts corn muffins, yogurt. Thanks
Good morning, The main objective with coumadin therapy is to keep your intake of vitamin K containing foods CONSTANT rather than AVOIDING them. To assist you, I can give you a list of high vitamin K foods and you can identify what not to eat on a sporadic basis: Foods listed by vitamin K level - Kale(531 micrograms/serv), collards (frozen,ck labels of frozen casseroles), spinach (frozen), turnip greens, Brussel sproats, Broccoli, leaf lettuce, cabbage and asparagus (30 micrograms/serv) per the Academy Supplement Reference Manual,AND. I do hope this answers your query. If further information needed feel free to visit me directly. Regards, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
