Hello, I recently had my doctor test my thyroid because I am working out 5 days a week since September and have not lost any weight. I am also experiencing heart palpitations, foggy thinking, bleeding in between cycles, very cold at points throughout the day. My mother, grandmother and daughter all have Hypothyroidism. My daughter has Hashimotos and is a Juvenile Diabetic. She ordered TSH with Feflex T4- the results they are telling me are normal at 1.93. Are they normal? Or are they just normal based on the scale the lab uses? Should I get a second opinion from a Endocrinologist? Thank you for any information you could provide.
Hi! welcome to HCM! A test for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is done to find out whether the thyroid gland is working properly. TSH is produced when the hypothalamus releases a substance called thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). TRH then triggers the pituitary gland to release TSH.
TSH causes the thyroid gland to make two hormones: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T3 and T4 help control your body's metabolism. Reflex testing means Free T4 will be performed when TSH result exceeds age/gender specific reference range .Normal TSH range is 0.40-4.50 mIU/L.Your TSH is absolutely normal. No further testing is required. So dont worry.Take care!
