What Is The Possible Cause Of The CA125 Increasing So Rapidly?
I have a left ovarian cyst meausuring 3.5 and a large fibroid 11cm.
My abdomen is extremely swollen and hard. I have had several CA125 tests ranging from 40's 60's 80's and now is at 172. Please advice what is the possible cause of the CA125 increasing so rapidly.
Hi! welcome to HCM! CA-125 is a protein that is a so-called tumor marker or biomarker, which is a substance that is found in greater concentration in tumor cells than in other cells of the body. In particular, CA 125 is present in greater concentration in many different benign and malignant conditions of ovary. CA 125 is used most often to monitor patients with a known tumor or as one of several tests in the workup of a patient suspected of having a tumor.
A decreasing level generally indicates that therapy, has been effective, while an increasing level indicates tumor recurrence. Because of normal test variation, small changes are usually not considered significant. A doubling or halving of the previous value would be important.your values are rising you must consult your gynaecologist and if required get the cyst and fibroid removed. hope this will help!take care!
