What Is The Procedure That Is Used For Biopsy Of Lung And That Can Go Deep In The Lung?
Had a PET scan done for place in lung, it came back active. My pulmonologist wants a biopsy done, where they go down the lung, instead of needle, or cutting on me, due to the area where this spot is. It is in a very narrow area of the airway, and deep at the back of the lung. There is some sort of new procedure that can get to this area by going down the lung. What is this called?
Thanks for your question on HCM. There are two ways for lung biopsy. 1. Percutaneous technique 2. Endobronchial technique. Percutaneous technique done under CT guidance. In this technique biopsy needle is inserted through the skin at the CT directed point. And biopsy is taken. Endobronchial technique is done through bronchoscope. In this bronchoscope is guided through nose, vocal cords, trachea upto the targeted site and than with help of biopsy forceps endoscopic biopsy is taken. So you will be biopsied by either of the techniques.
