What Is The Remedy For The Throat Pain And Congestion With Wheezing And Coughing?

Hi doctor,
My son is 4&1/2 yr old. He is complaining of a throat pain since past 2 days. He could not sleep last night due to congestion. He is a wheeler normally but, coughing or wheezing hasn't started yet. When he opens his mouth , the opening of his throat is pretty red. I have given him Alex syrup which has ingredients for anti allergy and anti congestion and anti cough.
I have Levolin , Budecort, Singulair, Alaspan syrup on hand but, haven't given it to him yet . Does it sounds like regular cold or he needs antibiotic?

Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry your son is not well. These symptoms may be due to a virus, which will ultimately resolve on it's own. In this case fluids and rest are all that is required. However, this may be due to bacteria, especially considering the presence of a sore throat for two days, In this case, antibiotic would be necessary. I recommend consulting with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.
