What Is The Solution For A White Growth In Tongue?
Hello, i have had a white growth on my tongue for almost 2 months and a half now, i used up a large amount of Nystatin oral drops and Daktarin oral Gel, also oral tablets of antifungals like Diflucan and Lamisil and the growth size may decrease for a few days but then re-grows again, i have even stopped eating any sugars or carbohydrates in case it might help but no use, would you kindly advise what can be a next solution?
White colored patch on tongue not responding to anti-fungal drugs is most probable due to leukoplakia. Leukoplakia is a term used for white colored patch in oral cavity. Leukoplakia is due to pre-neoplastic or neoplastic lesion. A biopsy of the leukoplakic patch is required to know the pathology in the lesion. Smoking and tobacco chewing are the risk factors for development of leukoplakia.
I suggest you to stop anti-fungal drugs and consult your primary health provider for biopsy of the white patch. The biopsy needs to be examined microscopically to look for any dysplastic or neoplastic change in the epithelium.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
