Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have Barretts Esophagus and my Gastroenterologist has increased my doe of Omerprazole from 20mg to 40mg. This drug is causing me bone density loss. Yet my Dr. insists that I need it to prevent HCL from entering the esophagus and that if I discontinued taking the drug can lead to esophagial cancer. I also have an Hiatal hernia which I feel is the culprit. I want to get off of the drug because of its side effects and I have been on it for 4 years. What is the solution ? Thank you
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. It may be treated endoscopically by electrocoagulation or ablation. It is also imprtant to avoid certain food or medications, stress and smoking. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Also, certain antiacid medications are required and a last option, it is possible to perform surgical repair of hernia . I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
