Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Treatment For Back Pain And Abdominal Pain?
I am a 66 year old female. I weigh 175 lbs and I am 5'8''. I have a history of hypertension and heart disease. I had two stents placed in my heart in 2006. I have been having bloating and some pain in my back on the right side just below my rib cage. I had an abdominal ultra sound. The results are: ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND, 06/28/11
HISTORY Abdominal pain, gas and bloating.
COMPARISON None available.
FINDINGS The abdominal aorta is unremarkable measuring 2.9 cm. Liver measures 16.1 cm and demonstrates diffusely increased echogenicity with posterior shadowing which would likely obscure an underlying subtle lesion. Common bile duct measures 3.4 mm. Gallbladder wall thickness is 6 mm. Sonographic Murphy's sign is negative. Pancreas is poorly visualized. The right kidney measures 11.3 cm and is unremarkable. The left kidney measures 11.8 cm and contains a 3 cm cyst. The spleen is suboptimally visualized but appears grossly unremarkable measuring up to 9.9 cm. No free intraperitoneal fluid is identified. My doctor has ordered a CT scan of my bladder. Do you think this is necessary? Because of my heart problems and medications I take, I am opposed to having any type of surgery unless it is a life and death situation. The pain I have is mild and I know that certain foods make the bloating worse. Do you think losing weight and changing my eating habits could possible make this go away on its own. I also have sleep apnea and sleep with a cpap machine. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Gayle
Dear patient You are suffering from renal cyst of around 3 cm and to confirm the diagnosis you require ct scan of abdomen not only bladder. Even if you are suffering from hypertension and heart disease it is required considering your age to rule out pathology of cyst. decreasing your weight would definitely help in reducing your Back pain but not abdominal pain. So it is advise to do CT scan abdomen because even if you are not fit for surgery it would help in confirming diagnosis and help in medical management.
