What Is The Treatment For Difficult Breathing And Persistent Cough?
My 16 year old son has been having breathing difficulties at night. It starts with him yawning whilst asleep, he then coughs, and then struggles to breathe. He has coughed up foamy white sputum whilst having these episodes. He also burps a lot and makes groaning noises whilst he coughs up the foam! He is well in the day apart from a thickly throat and persistent cough. He was admitted to hospital but was discharged to be followed up in clinic. Chest X-ray clear, bloods ok.
Hello Thanks for your query. From your history it seems to me that in all probability your son is suffering from asthma which is needed to be confirmed by spirometry with bronchodialator reversibility testing or bronchoprovocation testing and sputum eosinophil count and absolute eosinophil count. You should consult a pulmonologist soon and get your son thoroughly examined. I think proper asthma medications can only relieve your son's symptoms. Thank you. Regards, Dr Arnab Maji
