What Is The Treatment For Type 1 Diabetes?

I am a 22 year old female who has type 1 diabetes. I take insulin shots everyday before meals and before I go to bed. I have been getting extremely bloated after anything I eat to the point where people have asked me if I am pregnant. This has been going on for about 3 months. I went to a GI who perscribed me a medication called Xifaxan . It has not helped me at all so far. When I looked up what the medication was for, it says that it is perscribed for travelers diarrhea which I thought was weird because I am not experiencing any diarrhea. I also am not constipated, I use the restroom atleast once a day and after I have gone my stomach will look somewhat better but I am still bloated and no where near how flat it used to be. This issue is really depressing me, if anyone can help please let me know. I d also like to know if I should keep taking the xifaxan. Thanks for your help.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Good day,
Noted your concerns. Based on your symptoms, i suspect that you have celiac diease. This is relatively common among people with Ytpe 1 diabetes. The bloating occurs usually after you take gluten containing diet like wheat etc. The way to go is to test for celiac disease. This is done by testing a total IGA and anti TTG IGA.
You may also need a gastroscopy and stool examination. Please do a Vitamn D level as well as Thyroid function tests. These are important in a type 1 diabetes patient.

If Xifaxan hasnt helped you, please stop it. I personally do not beleive that yu have traveller's diarrhea or a stomach infection.
Hope this answer helps. Please discuss these points with your endocrinologist

Binu
