What Is The Treatment For Upper Abdominal Pain Inspite Of Using Rabiprazole And Ofloxacin?

Hi Doctor, I had an upper abdominal pain from past 10 days,I am using Rabiprazole and ofloxacin + ornidazole,but its not subsiding. After eating food stomach is tight and most discomfort. Also upper abdomen is painful. Is pain getting aggravated due to Ofloxacin? Could you please advice

I noted the history of pain in upper abdomen for the past 10 days - using Rabeprazole, Ofloxacin with Ornidazole but the pain is not subsiding, there is discomfort and tightness on eating, wants to know whether the pain is aggravated due to Ofloxacin and wants advise: Yes, Ofloxacin or Ornidazole can cause such a problem as you have discussed above.

The causes of an upper abdominal pain can be: Acidity related gastritis, gastric ulcer, may be referred to the back if there is posterior wall ulcer.inflammation related to the gall bladder, liver or pancreas can present similarly.

I would advise you the following: If you feel that the medications are not working and causing more problems then stop Ofloxacin and Ornidazole. Change over to Cefixime. Get an upper GI endoscopy. CT scan of the abdomen. Tests of blood, particularly for liver function tests. All these help to confirm the diagnosis and get a proper treatment. Continue Rabeprazole. Start antacid every three to four hourly, particularly when on empty stomach.
