What Is The Use Of RX D Vimpat ?
I was recently diagnosed as having a pre-disposition to epiletic seizures. Had an episode in October -- blacked out, hit head, etc. Primary doc referred to neuro who did 24 hour EEG, brain MRI. All clear except he said the 24 hour test showed slight pre-seizure activity . Should note that I am a mom to 3 young kids and am pursuing a 2nd career/degree in nursing and under lots of stress. The neurologist RX d vimpat . In extensive research, it indicates many other drugs - especially generics could be RX d. He gave me no other explaination for why this new and VERY expensive drug was his choice. I have since left his care and looking for new doc.

Vimpat (Lacosamide) is an anti-epileptic drug either use alone or together with other medications to control certain types of seizures like partial onset seizures.
Other alternate cost effective anti-epileptics would have been Carbamazepine, Valproic acid, Gabapentin or Lamotrigine.
You may discuss with your new doctor about these medications and their role in controlling your seizures.
