What Is Your Opinion About Complete Hip Replacement As Pain Persists Even After Pins Were Put To Repair A Broken Hip?

I broke my right hip July. The surgeon used 3 pins to repair it .It still has not healed and I am unable to put any weight on the leg...The break was at the point the bone is close to the ball area. The break area shows calcification. The Dr. is recommending a complete replacement. Any advice or comments would be appreciated

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi there.

You probably are suffering from Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip secondary to fracture.
It occurs due to cut off of the blood supply to the ball of hip (femur head).

To confirm this you will have to get an MRI done.....although advanced stages and nonunions ate diagnosed on X rays too.

If it is diagnosed then replacement is the only alternative.
Get it done early because prolonging it results in collapse of ball which might pose difficulties dure surgery.

I hope my advice has helped.
Good luck
