What Pain Medications Are Suggested For Patients With Ileostomy?
I am having Hip Replacement Surgery and have had an ileostomy for 47 years. 3 revisions for prolapse, hernia, and stricture. I am now eating very soft foods. what pain medication would you recomend as I think the narcotics (codine) they want me to take will cause an obstruction for me. Mary
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum. As you describe, the codeine will have the effect on the gut and cause the constipation due to the obstruction. There are many alternatives of narcotic analgesics, for use like tramadol, ketanov, morphine etc. I advise you to consult your doctor for prescribing the alternative, centrally acting analgesics. Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
