What To Do For The Infection Caused By Belly Button Piercing?

Okay, so I got my belly button pierced 3 days ago and my friend actually pierced it. I didn t know I wasn t suppose to use a dangling one when i first get it pierced. It s been kind of red around the top ball and this sort of puss had been coming out. It s itchy at times and I ve always been allergic to fake jewelry. It s also kind of swollen below the top ball. Is it infected ? What should I do ?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

There seems an infection at the site of piercing - pus and redness. I suggest you to take an oral antibiotic e.g either Amoxicillin or Cephalexin for a week. In addition to that I suggest you to use a topical anti-bacterial e.g. either Mupirocin cream or Fusidic acid cream.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S., Dermatologist
