What To Do If Blood Pressure Raises Due To Panicking While Taking Reading?
I have a 26 yr old son who is a paramedic/fire fighter and in good shape. However, on occasion, like when he s getting his blood pressure taken by someone and it s job related, he seems to panic and his blood pressure ends up reading higher than it should. This has happened several times, and I m wondering if he has the white coat syndrome where it s raised due to psychological head games. He routinely checks it at home and it s never high in the least. ....I wondered out loud with him tonight if he should take one of my low dose blood pressure pills the next time he would be checked at work, not so much to mask this flukey thing, but to give him confidence that the reading would not be elevated for no apparent reason.
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum. It is usually associated with the anxiety, and related to a particular situation like the medical examination. It needs to have a continuous use of the anxiolytics for few days prier to the medical examination. I advise you to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment. I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms alprazolam .5mg at night 10 days before the medical examination. Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
