What To Do If Having Nausea, Diarrhoea, Sluggishness After Taking Metformin 1000mg Instead Of The Prescribed 500mg And Insulin Shots?
I was prescribed 500 mg of Metformin for my type 2 diabetes and after taking an AC1 test which registered 11.5 my doctor prescribed insulin shots twice a day besides the metformin. Because i am afraid of needles, i took 1000 mg Metformin in hopes that this would lower my sugar better and would allow me to not use insulin shots. I have not taken the shots as of yet. After I took the 1000 mg this morning, About an hour and a half after I became very ill, cramps in stomach, nausea, severe diarreha , very tired, sluggish. Is this a sign of lactic acidosis? And what do I do now? Im afraid to take any more Metformin even the 500 mg. I have stopped the diarreha but am still nausious and feel out of it.
Hi, I have read your query and according to me you are suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis so you should start regular insulin as early as possible & stop metformin. You should consult with your doctor as early as possible because this is an emergency.
