What To Do If Taking Tramadol Prior To Hip Replacement And Having Severe Constipation And Warned Against Using It For More Than 2 Weeks?

I have been taking tramadol since hip replacement on 12/6/13 and have continued one a day at bedtime for pain in the other hip which is to be replaced on 2/4/14. I am experiencing pretty severe constipation and am wondering about taking stool softeners and other laxative products. I try to drink lots of water, but the products I have warn against use of more than 1-2 weeks. I am 74 years old and generally in good health otherwise. I take medication for high blood pressure, but it has been controlled for years.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
You are feeling the pain of the hip joint to be operated for hip replacement .
Take more of green leafy vegetables, pulses, sprouts, and protein rich foods to minimise the pain, and to correct constipation.
To minimise the pain avoid taking potato, other tubers, tomato, egg, chicken, and sea foods so far as possible.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms neurotropicinjections for 10 consecutive days, and then periodically.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
