What To Do If The Child Has Hardness, Redness In The Ear Pierced Area?
My 3 year old has had her ears pierced since she was a few months old. A few weeks ago one of her ears was getting red around the earring so I took it out and cleaned the earring and ear and put it back in with some neosporin. After a couple of days of doing this she said it was hurting so we took it out and left it out. I continued to clean it and apply neosporin twice a day but now it is still red and it feels very hard inside. Does this now have to be drained or cut open? What should I do?
I have gone through your query regarding redness, swelling and pain in the ear piercing area of your baby.
You had taken out ear ring is really good, but as you said that her ear lobule is red and swollen it means that either there is massive cellulitis or pus had formed. Therefore it is now necessary to consult your doctor for examination, if it is cellulitis only than medical treatment in the form of antibiotic and anti inflammatory will help but on the other hand if it is an abscess than operative intervention will become necessary.
Regards.
