What Treatment Is Suggested For Retracted And Thickened Ear Drum?

I have had tinnitus and mild conductive hearing loss for just over 3 months. I went for a Typography exam and showed no signs of ear drum movement which led every one to believe that I had fluid (I am 37 yrs old).I just had a CT scan done and the conclusion was that I had a retracted and thickened ear drum. Would this mimic Glue ear? The scan also showed no significant ear fluid or soft tissue. Does this mean none at all or just not a lot? What is the treatment for the above? My ENT was going to drain my ear but with the above results, are grommets used to reestablish correct pressure.

Hello

It is unlikely that you are having fluid in your ear , but a retracted tympanic membrane has a high propensity for fluid accumulation in the ear and you may eventually develop a fluid collection in the ear.
Putting grommets is a good idea and is the right thing to do as this will establish the ventilation of the ear and bring the tympanic membrane to the normal position. this will help in treating your tinnitus and mild hearing loss.

Thanks
