What Type Of Epilepsy Does Epilex And Olimet Treat? Reason For EEG To Be Abnormal?

Hello, I am planning to adopt a 4 year old girl. She has epilepsy . She is taking Epilex syrup 3.5ml Bd and 1/4 Olimet tablet. What type of epilepsy do these drugs treat? We are trying to understand what type of epilepsy she may have. She had a convulsion and was hospitalised at 18 mths. She had an MRI test at 36 months which was normal. Her last two EEG test have been abnormal but we don t know why. Can you advise? Thank you.

Thank you for posting your query.

Epilex (sodium valproate) is a broad spectrum anti-epileptic drug and is useful against various types of epilepsies.

Olimet (olanzapine) is an anti-psychotic drug and has no anti-epileptic properties.

Normal MRI report is a good news!

Abnormal EEG suggests a diagnosis of epilepsy.

At this point, anti-epileptic drugs should be continued. Please discuss these issues with the neurologist.
