What Type Of Stroke Causes Tingling On One Side Of The Face?

My husband has the right side of his face and arm a tingling feeling that will not go away. The Cat scan didn t show anything but a MRI showed he had a stroke. What type of stroke would cause this tingling and now what is going to happen to him. He is 66.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

There are two main kinds of stroke, ischemic (a blood vessel is blocked - no blood supply in the area) or hemorrhagic (bleeding). The symptoms can be similar for both so it's usually imaging which distinguishes them. Since it wasn't detected on cat scan but on MRI it should be an ischemic stroke.

Having symptoms on the right side usually means that the stroke is on the left side of his brain, in an area involved in sensation pathways, hence the abnormal sensation of tingling.

If those are the only symptoms it should be a small area affected so he should recover well from this stroke, improvement is gradual often takes weeks or months.

What is more important now is to identify the factors predisposing for stroke in order to lower the chances of a recurrence in the future. Common causes are high blood pressure, heart arrhythmias, diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol, obesity etc, so they should be addressed to prevent other strokes with more serious consequences in the future.

I hope to have been of help.

As per your explanation I can suggest there are various thing happen in stroke cases. If your husband have only minimum symptoms of tingling and numbness think he is lucky not to have major issues. This must be a minor stroke so he does not have any major issue.
From here on keep a track on his blood pressure because we see that is the major cause of stroke when it remains on higher side. In that case do visit your physician for change in medication. Apart from this on a diet and exercise part he has to do necessary changes. Do walking or cycling daily for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Initially if it's difficult then progress gradually. With this his body muscles will have God warm up and toning as well for nerves also there will be good warm up exercise.
But any time if you feel he has headache, imbalance not able to move his legs or hand then take him to near by hospital for immediate care.
Hope this was useful for you. Take care.
