Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I get a lot of stomach pains, gas etc and I m wondering if this is coming from the food just eaten, or maybe the day before. I m trying to figure out which foods cause the gas etc. How many hours does it take after eating for these pains to occur? Thanks Marion

That varies a lot. Typically, if symptoms occur immediately after ingestion, it suggests a problem in the stomach, e.g. gastritis, peptic ulcer. If it happens after ½ hour to a few hours, it is more likely caused by malabsorptive states in the small intestine, but it can also be IBS.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
