Why Am I Experiencing Sharp Pain In Right Tonsil While Yawning?

Hello :) I am experiencing a sharp pain in my right tonsil when I yawn. It hurts bad. It only hurts there and like on top. I can't really explain the pain other than sharp. It doesn't really hurt when I swallow only a bit. And my throat is itchy. By the way I'm a teen (14) so I don't smoke or drink.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding sharp pain in your right tonsil during yawing, though this does not hurt in swallowing food etc.

By your clinical history it is likely to be due to-

1- Glosopharyngeal neuralgia.- may be due to elongated styloid process of temporal bone.

2- Tonsillolith - stone in tonsil.

Both above conditions may be diagnosed by thorough clinical examination and investigations.

X-Ray mastoid oblique view is recmonded for visualizing styloid process. It is an usual practice to take X-Rays of both sides for comparison.

So it is now necessary for you to consult your ENT doctor for treatment.

Regards.
