Why Do I Keep Getting Infections After Surgery And How To Stop Them?
this is the second infection that I have in my left temporal lobe. the first was after surgery to remove a tumor in the left temporal lobe, a "bone fragment " caused the infection. After surgery to empty out as much of the infection as possible, and approximately 3 months antibiotics, my surgeon found another infection (in the same location as the last infection). Why do I keep getting these infections? What can I do to stop such an infection?
I understand your concern regarding recurrent infections in the brain. Brain abscesses are usually caused by more than one bacteria (polymicrobial) and most common organisms are staphylococci, streptococci, pseudomonas and anearobes. These abscesses occur by themselves and many times a primary focus cannot be traced and unfortunately relapse occurs. In your case, I am suspecting remnant infective foci which could have been missed while surgery and did not respond to the antibiotics. You can undergo a blood culture and sensitivity to find the causative organism and appropriate antibiotics to treat the infection. Thanks.
