Why Has Zoloft Failed To Help With Severe Diarrhea Along With Anxiety?
My son has ben suffering from severe diarrhea for several years. I have had him in to see our family physician who has ran a few tests and they have all come back ok. No irritable bowel or anything like that. My son admitted that when he gets anxiety that s when it comes about. he was put on Zoloft 2 months ago and things have been good, 2 weeks straight with no attacks. The past few days have been if not worse than ever before. He has an appointment on Monday to see the doctor again. Do you think I should suggest a specialist?
Zoloft is used in anxiety therapy but it is a serotonin stimulating drug causing side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, increased sweating and trouble sleeping. he might be suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms due to anxiety therapy. If the symptoms of anxiety have reappeared he is most probably not responding to zoloft. Please remember that your sons treating doctor would have prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to your son is greater than the risk of side effects. Psychiatrist consultation would suffice for now. Thanks.
