Why Is Biopsy Required While Having Enlarged Lymph Node On Neck?
my 2 year old son has an enlarged lymph node on his neck which has been there for 2-3 months he has had blood tests, an xray and sonogram scan done and now the hospital want him to have a biopsy. why does he need this done? what is it they are looking for when the xray, sonogram and blood test have come back normal?
And also they want to rule out lymphoproliferative disorders...
X-ray and sonogram will guide them whether any chest (lung) lesions, other enlarged lymph nodes any where in hilar lung region, abdominal lymph nodes...or any organomegaly like hepato spleenomegaly.....
Generally first antibiotic course given and if it doesn't resolve....we should look for other causes like above mentioned...so go through all advised procedures for early detection of underlying etiology....so that it will improve prognosis and recovery...and treatment can be started as soon as posssible...
thanks for contacting.....
