Why Is Colonoscopy Scheduled Based On The Hemoglobin Count?
My father recently had blood work and his hemoglobin count was 10.2. His physician has scheduled a colonoscopy for next month. Why would he automatically schedule the colonoscopy? He had open heart surgery in 2001 -- could some of his medication cause his level to be low? Thank you.

Why Is Colonoscopy Scheduled Based On The Hemoglobin Count?
Hello, If the intestinal problem is associated and hemorrhage from intestinal mucosa suspected, then colonoscopy can be planned. Here for low Hemoglobin (Hb) first of all, I need to know peripheral smear examination report and blood indices values for giving more comment. If needed, then serum iron, ferritin needs to be estimated. Consult a physician for examination. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
