Why Is The Fetus Trying To Push Hard On My Cervix?

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second child and feel like the baby is pushing down hard, almost like he/she is trying to get out. I feel the pressusure on my cervix and left side of my lower stomach. I don't remember feeling like this during my first pregnancy. Is this normal?

Hi,
It is not normal to have descent of the baby at this stage and this points to the possibility of incompetence of the cervix. Sometimes, if the baby is persistently in the transverse position, as often happens at this stage, such a feeling can be experienced. Anyway, you should get a proper opinion from your consultant, get a sonogram of the abdomen to see what is wrong. The length of the cervix also should be measured and if needed, a cervical encirclage may be done. Please take adequate rest, do not exert, eat healthy and easily digestible diet and see that you are not constipated. Take care.
