Why Losing Weight When Having Healthy Food After Diagnosed With Alzheimer?
My husband is 58 and has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer s since 2011. He is in stage 6 and a few symptoms of stage 7. He is eating about 3000 calories a day but is losing weight. 8-10 pounds in the last 4 months. What can cause the weight loss and how long with this stage last?
Hi, Its common to loose weight in Alzheimer's due to lower energy intake, higher resting energy expenditure, exaggerated physical activity (restlessness and agitation) and eating difficulty. Weight loss increases in severity and progression of Alzheimer's disease. Try to increase both nutrition and calories. At present, we can rule out low energy intake. The energy intake being given is for normal adults. It should be more in present condition. Try to consult a dietician for a proper diet Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further queries, happy to help.
