Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Will Condition Of Aortic Regurgitation Needs Surgery?
I was diagnosed with aortic regurgitation 15 yrs ago. I go for echo cardiograms once a year. The cardiologist I see repeatedly says I will most likely never need surgery. Everything I have been reading basically says this will progress. When first diagnosed I was told it's extremely mild. Now I'm being told it's mild/moderate. My question is - will I eventually need surgery? I am 50 yrs old now
I have gone through your query. You were diagnosed with Aortic Regurgitation 15 years back. Now your echo suggest that its mild to moderate. Based on your age at present, most likely you will not require surgery for the AR. It is always progressive in nature, but progression depends upon other underlying heart conditions like hypertension or valvular heart disease.
