I have had a terrible wisdom tooth infection which antibiotics have cleared i am in a little pain but have what I can only discribe as a terrible locked jaw - this has lasted for 4 days and I am drinking through a straw yawning is agony and talking too much just causes it to lock more tightly I am now getting panicky as I need to open my mouth desperately also for my job it is necessary for me to be talking constantly and this will be inpossible HELP

• Try to relax and avoid strenuous physical activity.
• Eat soft food and gradually move on to solid food
• Straw can increase the pressure inside the mouth and can cause bleeding
• Gently rinse your mouth several times a day to reduce swelling and relieve pain
• Do not smoke for 24 hours after surgery. Sucking motion can dislodge blood clots causing dry socket.
• Brush teeth and tongue carefully. spasm caused by infection of oral cavity most commonly seen after tooth extraction.you need to consult ent doctor for further evaluation.
Locked jaw after third molar infection indicates you have developed trismus following the infection which needs immediate treatment before it worsens to completely locking the jaw.
Visit your dentist, get your oral cavity thoroughly examined. An x-ray can be done to know the periapical bone condition surrounding the third molar tooth.
Muscle relaxants along with Antibiotics and painkillers are vital drugs to reduce the trismus as quickly as possible.
If lock jaw continues for prolonged period, then forceful opening of the jaw have to be carried out by the dentist or oral surgeon in the clinic.
To avoid the same, you have to do the oral exercise regularly which your dentist will let you you demonstrate correctly.
Keep your oral cavity clean specially by the use of Antiseptic mouth wash.
Extraction of the tooth might be necessary after the trismus resolves & can be done by your dentist.
