Wood Chip Entered Eye. Slimy Discharge, Swelling. Applied Eye Drops. What Else To Do?
My husband was drilling a hole in a 2x4 and a wood chip got in his eye. He has had trouble getting it out. It seems to be coming out in pieces. Not sure if all of it has come out. He said the discharge is somewhat slimy. It has swelled quite a lot as well. He is rinsing it in the shower and has put over the counter eye drops in it. Is there anything else we can do?
Hi thanks for your question, Your husband needs immediate consultation with ophthamologist. The piece of wood may have injured his eye, which can get infected leading to fatal complications and he may lose his vision. Though piece of wood is inert chemically but needs immediate removal, as its presence in conjunctiva or cornea (parts of eye) can leads to conjunctivitis or corneal ulcer with dreaded complications. Hope this answers your question
