Wrist Is Sore And Pain Radiates To Thump And Elbow. Underlying Cause And Treatment?

Hi,
My wrist has been a little sore lately. This morning my wrist is sore and the pain radiates up my thump and down towards my elbow. I can move it up and down with just a little pain but if I try to move it side to side (as if I was waving) the pain is pretty bad.I have not hit it on anything or done anything to injure it so I am not sure what is happening. I dont want to waste a visit to the doctor just so they can think I'm a just a whiner. Any suggestions on wha it migh be and what I can do to fix it? (By the way, it's not my writing hand, dont know if that matters)

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, thank you for your question.

It depends on your age, it will be either early arthritis in your wrist, or inflamed tendon.

I will recommend trying anti inflammatory tablets such as ibuprofen for few days only to see if the symptoms will settle.
I f no improvement then you need to see your doctor for more at least an X-ray of the wrist.

kind regards
