What Can Be Done To Cure An Unhealed Itchy Flea Marks In A Toddler?
3 year old came home from Dads 6 weeks ago, was covered from neck to legs all over. Took him to dr. who said it was flea bites. Gave cream and steroid for short duration. Was taken back a few days later, not getting better. redness had worsened, now infected, treated with antibiotics. Not improving. Treated with scabies cream all over, which was extremely painful to child because of scratching and open areas. not because of scabies diagnosis, but to try to dry them up. helped slightly, but not enough to clear it up. Into fourth week, repeated scabies treatment of cream left on over night. End of fifth week, most gone on elbows and knees which were completely covered.. One elbow has areas that are really red, areas on behind which are very itchy. Going into 6th week. Still under dr. care.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Scabies is characterised by multiple itchy lesions all over the body. The head and neck regions are also affected, however, the head and neck are not involved in case of adults. Scabies is caused by bite by a flea called sarcoptes scabei. The lesions are very itchy especially during night. Application of steroids can worsen the lesions. Superimposed bacterial infection can also occur. A correct diagnosis of scabies is mandatory before starting any treatment. A relevant history and good clinical examination is required for the correct diagnosis. The treatment of scabies consists of application of topical medication for treating the infection. Along with this, treatment of the bed clothings and clothes worn by the toddler is also required.
