Can REM Sleep Disorder Increase The Risk Of Depression?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: My husband has had sleep apnea for 20+ years. He has recently seen a new Doctor that noticed that for a few years he has rarely gone into REM nor has he been dreaming. Several health issues have been going on for a while. Pain, shingles even with vaccination, depression etc. So my question after all that is what are the effects of this sleep issue. He is 66 and pretty healthy exercises daily . Thanks for the information!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted the details of your husband.

I am glad to note that your husband is maintaining a good health. Though there is no direct link, research studies have shown a higher risk of high blood pressure, high blood sugars, obesity and heart attacks in people with REM sleep disorders.
