Can Conductive Hearing Loss Be Corrected?

Question: Hello Doctor,

My son, 5 years is identified as having conductive hearing loss. This is confirmed by tuning fork test and also hearing evaluation test. Doctors treated him for infection in the east canal and also for adenoid. Otrinoz drops and Singulast tablets were prescribed, which did not make any change. He is able to hear low voices, but not able to hear whisper and music from ear phones.

Wanted to know how to determine his exact problem and whether it could be progressive?

I have gone through your question and understand your concern; and I would like to suggest that your son may go for
1. Pure tone audiometry.
2. Impedance audiometry and
3. X ray lateral view naxopharynx for adenoid.

Above mentioned tests are absolutely necessary to determine his exact problem.

Please see the attached reports issued by two testing centres, which itself is contradictory. However tuning fork confirms conductive hearing loss. Will these reports suffice?
Xray is also avlbl. How can I send you the same?

I have gone through your follow up questions and your uploaded reports; and I would like to personally suggest that according to my best of knowledge

If hearing loss is only in the one ear then it suggest that most probably the sensorineural hearing loss.

If hearing loss is in both ear then it suggest the conductive hearing loss and it may be due to the Eustachian tube dysfunction.

Hearing loss is only in the right ear. Is there any way to determine the exact reason and any possible remedy? Also it could not be adenoide problem?

your son may go for the repeat pure tone audiometry by expert audiologist

Hi Sir,
I have gone through your follow up question and suggest you that either your son may go for the repeat pure tone audiometry test by expert audiologist or BERA test to reach the near diagnosis.

Most probably swaram hearing aid center report is correct because this pure tone audiometry is done by masking not previous one. Masking is necessary in this case.
