Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: Is any doctor on this forum aware of genomics based health assessment of susceptiblity towards lifestyle diseases, allergies, and high risk diseases? If not please check http://xcode.in and suggest if I should go for their 100&life programme. I am a chronic PCOS patient so want to adopt the right diet based on my genetic tendencies. They also claim to find out intolerance towards certain foods which may otherwise not be symptomatic. Request for a detailed reply.

Brief Answer:
I do not suggest this programme.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I have gone through the website that you mention in detail.
There are lakhs of genes in the human body, not all can be tested for.
ALso, I quote a line that they have mentioned on their site in the Product - Related FAQs -
' We provide information on eight preventable lifestyle conditions. These are common conditions affecting the population and research suggests are avoidable through nutritional, exercise and lifestyle modifications.

Cardiovascular diseases (Heart attack, Sudden cardiac arrest, Atrial fibrillation, Coronary heart disease, Hypertension)
Diabetes (Type II)
Obesity
Stroke '

PCIOS is mentioned nowhere in this.
Current scientific evidence has not yet found the precise genes linked to PCOS.
Regarding right diet based on genetic tendencies, there is no scientific evidence that can identify genes related to specific foods .
Intolerance to certain foods is almost always symptomatic.
I am not aware of the cost of the programme, but such a programme is not scientifically approved or backed by evidence.
I would not personally recommend it or avail of it, as it is right now impossible to test for all factors that contribute to diet, disease or lifestyle, particularly PCOS.
PCOS involves weight loss, sensible eating and daily exercise.
A qualified Nutrition Therapist / Dietician and a Fitness trainer might be able to help you more than this website.
The rest is your personal choice and discretion.
One more quote from their FAQ section - in reply to - is this test approved ?
' Genetic testing is not considered to be a medical diagnostic test and hence does not currently come under the purview of medical testing regulation. However, the genetic testing itself is under taken in a facility that is certified by appropriate government certifying authority. '
All the best
