Question: swollen penis shaft-left side painful urination and redness at urethra opening I had sex this past weekend but it was protected sex- but I had a lot of it and some masturbation too- I am going to a clinic, but could this be a broken blood vessel or some kind of tissue tear?

how long does this take??

Brief Answer:
Swelling is due to fluid release from adjacent blood vessels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There are soft muscles present within the penile shaft. After vigorous sex or masturbation, sometimes the blood vessels dilate and there is release of inflammatory fluid into to the adjacent soft tissue which presents as swelling. In most cases it resolves itself within a short period of time. Care should be taken to avoid penile trauma or have sex till full recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Thanks- but What about the burning during urination and the redness at the urethral opening- could the urethra be inflamed or have an interior rip because of rigorous sex.. now that I think of the experience, I really, really had far too much activity- but could there have been a mistaken chlamydia transfer during the condom application? I ask because I had a non specific gonococcal urethritis in the past that came up negative for all STDs but I had a similar burning and redness- but NOT as bad as this- and that took 10 days to incubate... this presented the day or two after I stopped having so much sex activity
there is absolutely no discharge, hence my question re: rough sex over a 72 hour period, but could there be an infection also- the burning is getting worse it seems- really sharp and I dread urinating.
I will go see a clinic on Friday for an STD panel (chlamydia, gonorhea, syphliis) perhaps there are two things going on.. I am encouraged that there was almost no indicative incubation, nor discharge, but let me know your thoughts

Brief Answer:
Mort Probably Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the followup query. After sexual intercourse there is increased incidence of urinary tract infection. Lower abdominal pain and burning urination commonly occur in UTI. As there is no history of discharge, you absolutely need not to worry. Hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days. Meanwhile following measures will help in improving symptoms:

- drink adequate water.
- take very good care of personal hygiene.
- wash genital area thoroughly after using washroom.
- avoid sexual intercourse till you become healthy again.
- Avoid coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks containing citrus juices and caffeine until your infection has cleared.

Thank You
