Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry to note your symptoms. When I see someone like you in my practice, I ask them to go back to thyroxine. Most endocrinologists worldwide prefer thyroxine alone for the treatment of hypothyroidism. T3 is not at all recommended owing to known side effects. I follow your history where it appears to have worked for you based on your previous doctors discretion. But it is not necessary and getting the thyroxine dose right typically imposes the TSH and can quickly bring TSH to target within 4-8 weeks when the dose is adjusted appropriately. T3 can harm the heart and bones in theory term due to its direct effects on the cells while thyroxine has the advantage of letting the cells convert it to as much T3 as the body needs.

Thank you .Yes I am concerned and aware of the side effects of T3 but have had a gene test which showed that I have one faulty gene and therefore had a bodily problem of poor conversion of Thyroxine to T3 . Ever since I started treatment for the underactive thyroid I have felt ill (mainly The Swimmy / Fluey weak feeling as previously described.and this has gone on for over seven years and is most distressing .I am now at a major London teaching hospital ( one consultation so far) and three years ago my then Endo agreed that I was one of few persons who were intolerant of Thyroxine .What do I do as I cannot bear feeling so rotten much longer!

Detailed Answer:
If indeed you have been proven to be one of the rare individuals with this condition then T3 is helpful. In such instances, higher doses such as 25 to 75 mcg per day are required. But this must be done gradually in increments of 12.5 mcg every 2 weeks, and that too under the close supervision of an endocrinologist
