I am facing this problem since childhood. I haven't consulted anyone yet about this. Had been researching this on Internet but didn't get proper answer so posted it here. I feel this is an extra finger on my body and if removed I will feel complete and more confident in life. I sometimes don't feel this finger and seeing this finger on daily basis bothers me to great length. So I wish to go for amputation.
Brief Answer:
Consult psychiatrist, no need for amputation
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for follow up and information.
I can understand your concern. But your problem is likely related to body dysmorphic disorder. The best professional to whom you can approach to get treatment is psychiatrist.
Your case is unique somewhat. I have seen few patients of this disorder but there concern was mostly related to face, figure, nose or eyes.
If by any means you would go for amputation, two possibilities are there:
1. You may feel other finger is to be removed now.
2. You feel repent on your action and sadness about losing finger.
Better to consult a psychiatrist and detail evaluation done for your problem. After proper history, physical examination and diagnosis, you can be treated with medicines and/or psychotherapy.
In medicines, benzodiazepines and SSRI would be helpful and in psychotherapy psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive therapy can be helpful. Choice of approach depends upon you and your treating doctor after thorough evaluation.
So I think you need not to go for amputation but go to psychiatrist.
You are welcome for any other query if there.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Thank you for your reply. However, I am seriously looking for an amputation as I have always wanted it from my childhood. I have always felt 9fingers in stead of 10 and this little finger does not belong to me at all. In fact I will be very happy if it is amputated and will become confident with a sense of completeness in life. So, I request you to please let me know the contact details of the surgeon in XXXXXXX who can amputate my finger. Thanks again.

Thanks for follow up.
Though you have determined to go for amputation, I still recommend going to psychiatrist once.
I am sending you link to find out surgeon/orthopaedic from healthcaremagic and you can choose among them to consult.

I guess any surgeon will also ask you to go to psychiatrist for opinion once, and then move forward to amputation.
I hope you will be well soon.
