Suggest Treatment For LSIL On The Cervix

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Aug 2017
Question: LSIL was found on my cervix for the first time in my life. I am 48 and postmenopausal if this matters. Would you suggest a second pap smear in which I could request the assay test for specific genotypes 16, 18 & 45? Then if that comes back positive perhaps go forward with the cone biopsy that my doctor said I could do to nip it in the bud. I am done having children obviously but not excited about this procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As per protocol, LSIL, if found can be followed up 3 monthly with Repeat pap smears for next 2 years and a course of antibiotics should be given for 14 days. You may however get it done after 3 months along with HPV-DNA studies for more conclusive approach. Following that cone biopsy or LEEP can be planned.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
antibiotics are especially given for any accompanied cervicitis and almostalways given empirically as per cdc guidelines..ideally doxycycline and tinidazole for 14 days. Infection is usually contributory to cervical erosions and hence should be treated.
you may discuss with your provider and take an informed decision.
