What Are The Effects Of Cervicitis?

i have a normal 28 day period. last july, i noticed some discharge and assumed it was normal. now, I missed my period for 3 days. I consulted an obgyn and she took samples for pap smear saying I might have cervicitis. I'm just concerned, does that mean I'm infertile now? I never missed my 28 day period until today.

Hello,

According to your history the points that can possibly help you are:

-Menstrual cycles with the length of 21 to 35 days can be considered as normal, sometimes 3 to 4 days delay in the periods may be seen without any specific pathological cause.

And cervicitis means, an infectious condition of the cervix, which can occur due to some pathological organism.

It only indicates possible pelvic infection and all the women with cervicitis cannot be considered as infertile. Local and systemic antibiotics can help in treating the condition.

So, depending on your papsmear result and if needed by swab for culture and sensitivity test, the possible cause of the problem can be identified and treatment can be planned accordingly.

And both the partners should be treated simultaneously to prevent future cross infections.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri SR
