Question: I have a nasty cut on my forehead from falling into patio furniture 2 days ago. Today my eyes are very swollen. I am concerned it might be an infection, but is this normal?

Brief Answer:
It is probably not infection but a contusion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
Do not worry. The swelling around the eyes is beacuse the blood that has leaked due to the injury travels down and around the eyes. This swelling is normal and expected after an injury to the forehead or front part of the head. The eye swelling might also change colour from red to purple to blue. It will take about a week to go or longer.
Most likely there would not be infection but to be safe you could take a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicines. I usually prescribe my patients Tab Augmentin thrice a day and Tab Voveran for tha pain and inflammation both for 5 to 7 days. You can also apply warm compresses over the bruised area. This will help.

Take care.
