Suggest Treatment For Cervicitis

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Today I went to the OBGYN and was told that I have cervicitis. I was on an antibiotic for what I thought was a mild UTI a few weeks ago, but then the symptoms came back a few days ago. Now my doctor has prescribed me a cream to use every night fir a week. However, when they tested my urine this morning... they found ketones and protein. Im not sure of the levels, but it was enough for my doctor to mention it to me. What could this mean? My doctor said the ketones told him that I hadn't eaten breakfast... but i had eaten breakfast about 30 minutes before. It was a large oatmeal lactation cookie that's actually high in carbs. I did have a mild stomach bug 3 days ago that just lasted 24 hours, but ive eaten a lot of food since then. Could something like that cause ketones and protein to be present in my urine?

Brief Answer:
I do not think there should be any serious cause for concern this early

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The presence of ketones in the urine does not directly indicate the last meal before the given urine sample but can also mean that you have not been feeding well enough over the last few days before the urine sample was given. So as mentioned by you, you did suffer from a stomach bug a few days prior to the urine sample and that could in itself cause the ketones in your urine.

In my personal opinion, nothing to worry about in relation to the ketones in your urine. As for the protein in the urine, there can be quite a few causes for the presence of proteins in the urine and for your reference I would like to list some of them:

+Kidney damage: One of the most common causes; damage can include chronic or acute conditions, infections, injuries, etc.
+Side effect of medications
+Recent infections (like the stomach bug you recently had)
+Toxins in the body (also possible from the stomach bug you recently had)
and a few other causes.

I would not really raise any cause for concern, and would wait for a few more weeks (2-4) before we can take a repeat urine sample and look for protein or ketones. If either one of them is present even then, then we can raise cause for concern and further investigate.

Please also feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help. I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
