Question: Hi. My husband underwent a coiling for an unruptured brain aneurysm in February of 2014. Unfortunately, the aneurysm ruptured during the coiling and he was hospitalized for 51 days. He is home and back to work on a limited basis, and is generally doing well, but his blood count is a bit off. During his hospitalization, but prior to the rupture, we learned that his platelet count was low 115. His wbc was 5.1, and his rbc was 4.36, hemoglobin 13.7.. My husband had not had any blood work done in many years, so we have no prior records.. After his release from the hospital in April, his white blood cell count has also been low, . His primary care doctor has been testing him on a regular basis, since May 2014, his wbc has been: 3.3, 3.6, 3.5, 4.1, 3.5 .. His platelet count has been: 123 (this was upon release from the hospital where I believe he was given platelets during his surgeries), 107, 105, 97, 103, & 106. He was released from the hospital with anemia, and his numbers improved after release (with one exception): RBC 3.3, 4.34, 4.02, 4.39, 4.34. His primary care doctor has not referred him to a hematologist and when asked has said there is no need. But, I wanted to check and get a second opinion. I have health anxiety (about his health, not my own), and I don't want to unnecessarily drag him through doctor after doctor and test after test, given what he has already been through, but I am also afraid of being too complacent and not having him checked by someone else, if there is a need. My husband does not have anemia. He has low platelet and low wbc count.
