Question: I developed a painful lump overnight on my shoulder. It is not visible but I can feel it under the skin. It is right on top of the joint. I had not strained it or overused it in any way.

Brief Answer:
Try simple analgesics & hot fomentation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, welcome to HealthcareMagic.
Thanks for posting to us.

This need not be worried much.
It can either be beginning of a soft tissue infection, a contusion from minor unnoticed trauma or less likely an insect bite reaction(which usually causes some itching too).

If this is not associated with other symptoms like fever/surrounding edema or redness, you can just try simple analgesics like Ibuprofen(400 mg thrice daily after food) for 3-5 days along with hot fomentation.

If you do not feel better after 2 days , kindly see your doctor as we may need further evaluation and antibiotic treatment.

Hope this will answer your query.
Be free to ask further questions if any.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
