Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
See vitamin D levels are found to be low in most of the population. I don't suggest you to corelate your body aches with vitamin D levels.
However there is no harm in taking Cholecalciferol 60k once a week. This would help you in regaining and maintaining normal levels that are required. You can continue this indefinitely.
Regarding body pains the most common cause is Hypothyroidism. That is also evident in your case.
A good control of Thyroid levels would help you.
Also get your Hemoglobin and Vitamin B12 levels checked. If low correction would be required.
If you have any questions feel comfortable to ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Thank you for your prompt response....I am a little confused, what is Cholecalciferol and 60k means what or how much is that? Also , my thyroid history is as follows...just this past week I have been dealing with a Dr. on the thyroid issue...I am now 62 years old, had my thyroid out at the age of 23, so I thought.....I had a goiter on the right side of my neck, back then you don't think to as questions, now that I am older, I have questions....I had thyroid scan done years ago, this is there finding as I find out now, they did a partial thyroid removal on my left side, you would think they did it on the right side where the goiter was, right? Anyway, it appears I still have a thyroid on my right side and according to the Dr. is grossly overgrown, but is not considered a mass or cancerous......and I feel nothing on the outside so no apparent bulge...weird I think. Anyway, I was on 97.5 Nature thyroid and she just switched me to 100 mcg of Levothyroxine.... my levels are a 1.6 she wants me at a 1 asked her why that number and she said for some people that is a number they start to feel better on.....What is your opinion? I also have trouble losing weight, is that why other then it is harder to lose as one gets older.....what do I need to do or try? I also take 50 idol a day(iodine) is that good? I have a lot of body aches, some is from my herniated/bulging disk in my L4 L5 region and some sciatica......not bad enough to do surgery, and am not planning on that. I just want to feel better and no so many aches....can you suggest anything to me that might be helpful? Thank you again!

Dear Friend.
Cholecalciferol is a oral form of Vitamin D3. 60 k means 60,000 units. You can easily get OTC as Calcirol 60 k sachets.
As far as your Thyroid history is concerned you have to take Levothyroxine your whole life according to your TSH levels. No need to take extra iodine. Just use iodinated salt.
You can also take supplement containing Levocarnitine and Vitamin E like Evion-LC. This would help you greatly in your body pains.
Follow this for a month and then write to me again with how you are feeling.
If doesn't work we will go to second line treatment that we would discuss according.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

I also forgot to ask when the best time of day was to take my Levothyroxine, I have read/heard to take it before bedtime......morning coffee interfers with it's function???

Dear Friend.
Evion-LC is a trade name for the combination of Vitamin E and Levocarnitine.
You can get it OTC from any good store or online store.
Now for Levothyroxine keep it clear in mind with no confusion at all that it has to be taken early morning empty stomach. You can have your tea / coffee or breakfast after around an hour of taking it.
We advise people to keep it bedside and pop it with water. as soon as you get up. Then start your daily activities of freshning up. This would give you a break of around 45 minutes to 1 hour.
At least half an hour gap is mandatory.
I am hopeful that I am able to help you.
I would like to see you after 1 month. Don't expect any magical effect within a month on taking Evion-LC. But atleast you will start having improvement.
If you have any further query please ask me else close the discussion and rate it.
Stay Healthy.
