What Causes Cramps And Bloating After Having Mirena IUD Inserted ?
Question: Hello,
I had the Mirena IUD inserted 12 days ago. Every day since then I have had cramping and extreme bloating. On two different days the cramping and bloating became so bad I became nauseated and felt I may vomit, although I have not vomited. Is this normal after having an IUD inserted? And if so, how long could this continue before it starts to subside or level off?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
It will subside in 2-3 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
After the insertion of IUD, the abdominal cramps, nausea, bloating are common symptoms. These can be associated with mild spotting also. The symptoms do take 2-3 weeks to settle down on their own. The bloating and cramping will gradually decrease and you will have regular periods.
