What Causes Difficulty In Urination After An Accidental Fall?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: Dr. Last Wednesday, during the day, I accidently fell & hit my side on a plastic jug that we keep all of our extension cords in. Yes, it hurt, but I didn't seek medical attention. The next day it was very sore to touch. I had to have my spleen removed a couple of years ago due to my lapband breaking loose & wrapped itself around my spleen. Scary! It was a 7 hour surgery & when I awoke, I was on the ventilator, with an NG tube in pace & spent two days in the ICU. After my second week in the hospital, I was released & retuned home w/o any complications, except for developing C-diff. I was re-admitted for another week. Upon this discharge, needless to say, I was eager to return home & to see my grandchildren. The ER doctor told me I would be very sore & oh how true was he. Last Thursday, I began to hurt on my right side & I knew it was due to the fall. I've been using a heating pad/ice, BTW: two months later, I fell & broke my right hand then one year later, I broke my right hand. Shew!! I then developed heart issues & now I have three heart stints. I've also noticed that my balance is not perfect since I've had the breakage of my right shoulder/hand. After my fall last week, the only symptoms I was having, was pain in my side & knee. But Friday night, I started having trouble urinating. Sitting on the commode for 2 hours is unreal. Six hours later, I was able to "dribble" some. Last night was horrible & I'm so sore in my right side. Too painful to lay, sit, walk are entertain. (My husband & I pastor a small church in KY).. I'm very worried that my fall may have done something to injure my kidneys. I have a history of kidney stones, but their is NO Blood in my urine. It's a very dark yellow when I finally get a chance to look at it once it's passed. My husband is not much on ER visit/bills, so I don't think asking him to take me for a follow up would be impossible. I saw our Famliy Doctor on Tuesday, but again the fall happened on Wed. afternoon. Would the lack of urination & the fall be related?? I'm not only very sore but I'm also very nausea. Does this make sense? I truly Appreciate Your Services & look forward to your answers,. This is my first time to ever submit are visited your site. May God Continue to Bless You as You Help Others. Brief Answer: Yes, could be related Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for your query. The disturbance in the urination could be related to the fall you had on Wednesday. You might have sustained a blunt injury without much trauma not leading to bleeding wound but a symptomatic contusion. I would recommend complete physical examination supplemented by a Ultrasound scan of the abdomen and pelvis to rule out any internal bleeding of impending internal injuries which would gape. Do not wait, I suggest you rule out the problems at the earliest to prevent undue complications. Wish you good health. Regards,
